About 1,000 people fill cathedral for Our Lady of Guadalupe vigil Mass
About 1,000 people – including many Hispanics – filled St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha Dec. 11 for a vigil Mass with Archbishop George J. Lucas celebrating the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
“It was beautiful,” said Moises Aguero of Assumption-Guadalupe Parish in Omaha, who with his wife, Erika, posed for photos with the archbishop at a reception after the Mass, which was celebrated in Spanish.
The reception included tamales and Mexican sweet rolls, and prominent in the Mass and the gathering afterward was a large image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, who appeared to St. Juan Diego in Mexico in 1531.
