Holy Name students visit state capital

Fourth-graders at Holy Name School in Omaha enjoyed a day away from the classroom while learning more about their state.

 

Twenty-nine students and their teachers traveled to Lincoln March 8, where they toured the state Capitol, learned about Nebraska history, visited the Nebraska Supreme Court chambers and watched the state Legislature in action.

 

Students also visited the University of Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium, and ended their trip with prayer and a tour of the Holy Family Shrine near Gretna.

 

The trip was funded by The Nebraska Arts Council’s Nebraska Experience School Bus Grant, a program celebrating the state’s 2017 sesquicentennial by providing fourth-graders the opportunity to learn about the state through visits to the state Capitol and other historically or culturally significant Nebraska sites during the 2017-18 school year.

 

“The students had a fantastic time,” said fourth-grade teacher Melanie Stara.  “Most of them had never been to the three places we visited, and everyone had a different favorite part.  It was great to watch them learn and experience Nebraska, and we are so grateful for the grant from the Nebraska Arts Council.”
